Cardiff University Students Union is a multi-purpose establishment, that has lots to offer. Speaking of the venues, it features several: Y Plas, The Great Hall, The Taf and CF10. Y Plas is a multifunctional newly renovated venue with 1500 people seating capacity. It is often used for different events and live music performances. Some of the performers, hosted by the venue, are London Grammar, Bastille and Jake Bugg. The Great Hall is another huge facility, which hosts exhibitions, tournaments and lectured during the daytime and turns into the gig venue at night. On its stage, it has featured Mayday Parade, Marillion
, The Civil Wars and Ben Howard. The Great Hall boasts a 1000 people seating capacity.
The venue is located very conveniently and is easily accessible by bus, car and train.
By train: you can get to the venue by the high-speed inter-city train pretty much from any major British city. If you are travelling from London Paddington, the train runs every 30 minutes (Cardiff-London service). Same goes for the trains from Liverpool, Manchester, Southampton, Birmingham, Bristol, etc.
By car: the city of Cardiff is easily accessible through the M4. Travelling from the southwest, take the road M5, followed by main A roads to the M4. Take the M50 to M4 if you are coming from the north or Scotland. If you are travelling east, exit the motorway at Junction 32, take the A470 and enter through the Cathays area of the town. When travelling west, exit at the Junction 29, take the A48 to the A470. Follow the previous route after that.
International: if travelling from the Cardiff Airport, take the bus T9. It will take you to the County Hall station (SW-bound). Then walk to the Cardiff Bay and take the train (Arriva Trains Wales) to Cardiff Queen Street station. Then switch to the Merthyr Tydfil train and get off at Cathays.
Unfortunately, the venue does not offer the parking for its customers, but there is substantial “pay and display” parking available nearby. Yellow lines are also available nearby.
Access for people with special needs
The front entrance of the venue is at Park Place, with a ground level lift behind the stairs, providing access to all other levels. Equipped toilets are available on all floors except ground level.
