1. The xx in Cardiff, 17 March 2017

 

Did you know the members of The xx went to the same school as Pierce Brosnan, Hot Chip and Four Tet? Must be something in the water there. Their critically acclaimed debit album was voted by many as one of the best albums of 2009.

This band from Wandsworth has only grown from strength to strength since forming in 2005. They released their third and latest album, I See You, in January 2017. 2. The Play That Goes Wrong in London, 17 March 2017

Winner of two ‘Best New Comedy’ awards,  The Play That Goes Wrong is now in its third season. A 1920s murder mystery in which everything goes pear shaped.

The Play That Goes Wrong was written by Henry Shields, Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer. The three writers are members of the Mischief Theatre Company.

3.  Partenope in London, 17 March 2017

Partenope is now showing at the London Coliseum for a very limited season. So you should get your Partenope tickets before it's too late!

This comedic opera by George Frideric Handel was first performed in 1730. It’s latest incarnation was directed by Christopher Alden and has won an Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production. Alden is well known for his innovative and modern remakes of opera classics. In this production, he transports the audience to surrealist, Parisian salon parties in the 1920s – and even chucks in a some gender-bending.

4. Jay Chou in London, 17 March 2017

Jay Chou is a global superstar. This Taiwanese singer, producer, actor and director has sold over 30 million albums and has won so many music awards. Jay also made his Hollywood début in 2011 as Kato in The Green Hornet. He shared the screen with Christoph Waltz and Seth Rogen.

5. The Glass Menagerie in London, 18 March 2017

Award-winning director, John Tiffany has recreated this 1944 play by Tennessee Williams into a heartbreaking masterpiece. This was Tennessee’s very first triumphant play, and he’s still regarded as one of the best American playwrights in history. It’s a tragic story about a domineering mother’s two fragile children: a daughter who is lost in her own little world, and a son who doesn’t want to hang around.

6. Macy Gray in Manchester, 18 March 2017

Macy Gray needs no introduction. This Grammy Award-winning singer is well known for her raspy voice and her smash hit single, “I Try”. She has been active in the music industry since 1990, and has appeared in quite a few films. Her cameo in Spider-Man is certainly a memorable one!

Her tenth album, Stripped was released last year and is Macy’s first jazz production. The album was recorded live in a decommissioned church in New York. 8. The Commitments in Birmingham, 18 March 2017

Roddy Doyle is a massive music fan and wrote The Commitments in 1986. But he’s never been in a band. And he still lives in the same street where he wrote this work of fiction! This fantastic musical has enjoyed a record-breaking run in London’s West End. It received critical acclaim after its première in 2013, and is considered a sensational musical.
