About The Wailers
Bob Marley and the Wailers
Bob Marley formed his band in 1963. First, its name was The Teenagers, then The Wailing Rudeboys, The Wailing Wailers and, finally, The Wailers. Until the early 70’s The Wailers were not known outside Jamaica. Everything changed after the Island Records released their 1973 album Catch a Fire. The same year, they launched Burnin’; and a year later the album Natty Dread, featuring an unmatched No Woman, No Cry. In 1974, the band split, and all the members began a solo career. A year later, the group changed its name to Bob Marley and The Wailers.
The Wailers Band
After Bob Marley’s tragic death in 1981, his friend Joe Yamanaka was the lead vocalist of frontman The Wailers, up to 1986. Today, the band is mainly referred to as The Wailers Band. Its frontman is bassist Aston Barrett. Besides The Wailers, Barrett has played and recorded with such renowned musicians as
Stevie Wonder, The Gypsy Kings,
Eric Clapton,
The Rolling Stones,
Bruce Springsteen,
Carlos Santana and many others. The current members are Aston Barrett (bass), Dwayne Anglin (lead vocals), Audley Chisholm (lead guitar), Melvin Glover (rhythm guitar), Chaka Taylor (keyboards), Cegee Victory (backing vocals) and Aston Barrett, Jr. (drums). The latest studio album, Heritage of Dub, was released in 2000, but the band keeps touring actively.
