About Eric Clapton

Biography

On the thirteenth birthday, Clapton received an acoustic guitar “Hoyer”. Clapton was under the influence of blues from early age, studying blues chords, playing together with audio recordings. He continued the studies with the use of a portable “Grundig” tape recorder.

The 1960s

After finishing Hollyfield School in Surbiton, in 1961, Clapton studied in Kingston College of Art, but was expelled because his attention was still concentrated on music, but not on art. When he was 17, Clapton joined the first group, “The Roosters”, performing early British R&B.

Yardbirds and Other Groups of Eric Clapton

In 1963, Clapton joined “Yardbirds”, a rock group with strong blues influence, and remained with them until 1965. They went on a tour across England with the American bluesman Sonni Boy Williamson II, and also recorded with him the joint album. In 1965, “Yardbirds” let out the first big hit “For Your Love” where Clapton played the guitar. The “Yardbirds” chose a way towards the pop focused sounding. Clapton was against the change of style and left the group. Clapton joined “John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers” in 1965, but in several months left the group. During this period, his passionate manner of playing created him a name of the best club blues guitarist.

Cream and Solo Career

Next year Clapton together with other musicians creates “Cream” group. During the period from 1966 to 1969 they recorded four successful albums, which became the real classics of rock music subsequently. After disintegration of the group in 1969, Eric Clapton performed in “Blind Faith” group for some time. However, subsequently he began to be engaged in the solo project. In recent years as the solo musician, the talented Englishman became known around the world.
