About Iggy Pop
The First Attempts to Succeed and the First Failures
Iggy Pop created the band of Psychedelic Stooges in Chicago, where he moved in the early 1960s. At that time, Iggy started using something of Jim Morrison’s behaviour on stage. Soon, the band changed its name to The Stooges and signed a contract with Elektra Records. However, The Stooges albums were not commercially successful, and Iggy started abusing drugs. He tried to gather the band together again in 1971 but failed because of drugs again. All this through and many years afterwards, Iggy Pop was strongly supported by his friend David Bowie.
The New Start and the Fame
After some time spent by Iggy in a rehab, David Bowie helped him to release two solo studio albums. Right after that, The Stooges united again. In 1980, he published his autobiography, I Need More, in which he told about his personal and professional life. In the 1980s, Iggy Pop also collaborated with many different famous musicians, among whom there are Steve Jones of Sex Pistols and Ryuichi Sakamoto. In the 1990s, Iggy Pop released several albums in collaboration with well-known musicians and recorded the soundtrack for Emir Kusturica's Arizona Dream. In the 2000s, the musician has appeared in commercials. He also recorded the song Little Know It All together with Sum 41 and Private Hell with Green Day. During these years, Iggy released a number of solo albums, too. Iggy Pop starred in a number of movies, such as Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man and Coffee and Cigarettes, Alex Cox’s Sid and Nancy and many others.
