About Dinosaur Jr.
Way to Fame
Before creating Dinasaur Jr., J Mascis, and Lou Barlow played in a band called Deep Wound, who, along with a band called Siege, are considered to be the predecessors of grindcore and thrashcore. After Deep Wound had disbanded, Dinosaur Jr. was created in 1984, and in 1985, they released their first album entitled "Dinosaur". Despite various line-up changes, they managed to sign a contract with a major label called Sire records; Dinosaur Jr. toured a lot during these years and had some of their songs reach high positions in various charts. At the end of the nineties, Dinosaur Jr. disbanded for some time, which led to the creation of various side projects. In 2005 Dinosaur Jr. reunited and continued performing from then on.
Dinosaur style
The band is highly influenced by garage rock style as well as by punk rock and pop music. In their own words, the band tried to create something between punk and pop music. Dinosaur J. often played at high volume, used guitar feedbacks, and distorted guitars sound, complemented by stylistic features of classic rock. They influenced many followers bands, including Nirvana or
Pixies, and many other musicians that developed the style of alternative rock since 1990.
