There he got acquainted with the future guitarist and the vocalist of “Pink Floyd” Syd Barrett and the bass guitarist and vocalist Roger Waters who studied at the Higher school for boys of Cambridgeshire, which is also located on Hills Road. Having begun to sing in “Jokers Wild”, David joined “Pink Floyd” in 1967, when the drummer Nick Mason suggested him to play in the group.
About David Gilmour
“Pink Floyd” and Other Projects
His vocals can be heard in such songs as “Nile Song”, “Breath”, “Welcome to the Machine”, “Goodbye Blue Sky”, and also in the second part of a well-known “Another Brick in the Wall”. However, musical activity of David wasn't limited to “Pink Floyd”, as the musician and the producer he took the most active part in the work on Syd Barrett's albums “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barrett” (both 1970), quite closely cooperated with the group of progressive rock "Unicorn", and in the mid-70s he opened such a performer as Keith Bush.
After the next album of “Pink Floyd”, “Animals” (1977), Gilmore, felt need of creative self-realization. He started recording his first solo album. Recorded in France with the assistance of Rick Wills and Willie Wilson, who played with David in “Jokers Wild”, the album in the musical relation is close to “Pink Floyd” style, but at the same time it turned out much more lyrical and pacified without any ambitious and deprived of any claims for epochality. Called without excess inventions – “David Gilmour”, it appeared in 1978 and soon broke through in charts. Unlike a debut album of David, the second disk “About Faces” (1984) became much more rigid with almost hard rock sounding.
