August Anthony Alsina Jr., also known as simply August Alsina, is best known as a singer and songwriter of R&B. His debut album was named part of the 2014 XXL freshman class and his second album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200. August has won many awards and fought many battles to be the star he is today. He was named one of MTV’s 2013 Fab 5 - it’s annual list of new Hip Hop artist to watch - being the only singer to ever grace this list till today.

August Alsina Jr., born September 2, 1992, in New Orleans, Louisiana - one of the most dangerous and lively areas in the United States. At 16, he was kicked out by his mother and began selling drugs with his older brother Melvin LaBranch III. This stint was short lived as his brother was also shot and killed leading to the inspiration of music as his way out of his ill circumstances. His talent, moulded by pain, led him to the likes of management and production company NNTME MuCo, which he has been with since 2011. In 2012 he released the mixtape ‘The Product’ one of the series of his upbringing. The second instalment featured hot names like DJ Drama and Trinidad Jame$. The single ‘I Luv This Shit’ was August’s breakout and breakthrough!Honors
August Alsina is the perfect example of rags to riches, taking his pain and turning it into dollars. ‘I Luv This Shit’ surpassed Drake, Jay-Z, and J Cole and became the #1 song on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Chart in October of 2013. Adding Chris Brown and Trey Songz to the remix got August over 1,000,000 copies sold and Platinum certification from RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). His debut album Testimony was released on his brother Melvin’s 28th birthday and in its first week was named #1 debut album, #1 R&B album, and #2 overall album on the Billboard Top 200.
