About Weaves
Successful Start
During such a short career, they have already succeeded to perform on the one stage with “Constantines”, Tune-Yards and Austra in Massey Hall and The Phoenix. The group is often recognized as seductive art-rockers, a collective with a delirious swirl and pop eclectics, the band make bent-out-of-shape pop music that’s catchy and unpredictable. The producers of the debut EP of “Weaves” were Dave Newfeld and Leon Taheny. It occupied No.8 position on Popmatters' list of best indie rock discs of 2014.
Style
In their creativity Weaves try to mix the parts of high-quality tunes typical for pop music with lo-fi noise music styles to produce a “disgusting” but “catchy” feeling. The straining between the singer’s preference for topsy-turvy melodies and guitar’s affinity for buoyant pop hooks creates music full of fun, art, noise and weirdness although with a certain degree of accessibility. Tsking into account a virtuosic rhythm parts added by drums and basses, and you receive the group that is slick but slimy, backwards but forward thinking, seeming on the tip of collapsing.
