Van Morrison (a real name of Sir George Ivan Morrison) was born in Belfast on August 31, 1945. Here Van debuted with an album “Astral Weeks” (1968), which is still considered the best in his discography. The hypnotic, meditative music, which is hardly put in to classification, has plunged critics into ecstasy though the public first remained cool to the work. In 1970 there was an album “Moondance” (1970), sounding much more optimistically than the predecessor and probably therefore staked out the place in the Top 40.
About Van Morrison
Recognition
Soon Van moves to California where he wrote down a number of commercially successful works. Special recognition was gained during this period by the songs “Domino” and “Wild Night”. In 1972, there was a disk “Saint Dominic's Preview” with which Morrison has returned to the meditative period, left during “Astral Weeks”. A bit later Van organized an accompanying band “Caledonia Soul Orchestra”, which helped him in the creation of “Hard Nose the Highway” album (1973) and magnificent “It’s Too Late to Stop Now”, but already in 1973, he dismissed the team.
Divorce and Creativity
The same year Morrison had to divorce, and the musician splashed out all the emotional experiences in an album “Veedon Fleece”. The followed three years' silence was broken by a disk “A Period of Transition” and a renewal of concert activities. The actor celebrated the end of the 70s by the release of two successful works, “Wavelength” and “Into the Music”.
In 1988, the musician together with “Chieftains” wrote down a selection of the Irish national songs “Irish Heartbeat”. The commercial success has returned to Morrison in 1989 when there was an album “Avalon Sunset”. The song “Whenever God Shines His Light” sung by a duet with Cliff Richard became his first hit for the last twenty years in the British Top 20.
