The Specials Tickets

For the first time future members of “The Specials” were gathered by the keyboard player Jerry Dammers in the town of Coventry in 1977. Dammers was born in India in a family of the English priest. Got to Coventry, the little boy entered the Polytechnic college, Art Department. Jerry plunged into music. With the guitarist Golding and the bass player Panter, they began to play a mix of punk and heavy reggae.

About The Specials

Developing a style and Creating a Lineup

Such a mix wasn't so unusual, as musical rebels from Jamaica were one of the main heroes of the English punks. Soon the guys began to play ska because, according to Dammers, “ska was simpler to be played”. The structure of the group was gradually created: Dammers, Tim Strickland, Lynval Golding, Silverton Hutchinson, and Horace Panter.

Debuts and tours

In 1979, Dammers lets out the first single “Gangsters” on the money earned from the concerts. The single rushed into hot 10, and the team appeared in “The Top Of The Pops” for the first time. The debut album, produced by Elvis Costello, left in 1979, started on the 7th line of a national chart. The British tours took place with notices, and “The Specials” went to conquer America. There they performed on a warming up at “Police” and often outdid headliners.

Style Change

In the album “More Specials” (1980), the group made a turn from ska and the punk towards Lange, but the public gave work a cordial welcome, and the record entered Top 10. Upon termination of the accompanying tours the part of musicians was engaged in third-party projects. Despite this fact, in 1981 there was a video “Dance Craze” and a fresh minion “Ghost Town”.

Break

A new long-play, “In The Studio”, appeared in 1984. The work made quite a good success, but the days of “The Specials” have been already considered, and the group soon disappeared from the musical horizon. In 1994, Bayers, Golding, Panter and Staple reunited under an old sign, and the drummer Aitch Bembridge, the keyboard player Mark Adams and the trombonist Adam Birch joined the group. Several years the revived group strenuously went on tours and wrote down albums.
