About Stereophonics

Group’s History

The history of group originates in early 90s when Kelly Jones, Richard Jones, and Stuart Cable, three childhood friends, decided to create a rock group, which they christened “Blind Faith”. But soon it has become clear that such name was carried by Eric Clapton's group. After a while there was a renamed “Tragic Love Company” group called in honor of their favorite band of musicians: “The Tragically Hip, Mother Love Bone and Bad Company”. Later Stuart Cable offered the name “Stereophonics”, read in the photo of his grandmother.

How they began

Sounding of the group was described as "ringing guitars, fascinating graceful harmonies, rock mixed with poetry, the sincere romantic texts which have issued from Kelly Jones's pen whose sharp voice will leave nobody indifferent". Such unique mix did not remain unnoticed by general public, and the group gets the award at Brit Awards in the nomination "The Best New Group", and their album becomes "platinum" in Great Britain.

At the Top of Fame

Two years later, being already a successful group, “Stereophonics” issue the second work, “Performance and Cocktails”. The new album was not less powerful than the previous one, with such songs as “The Bartender and the Thief”, “Just Looking”, and “I Stopped to Fill My Car Up”. After this album, the group gained enduring popularity not only in the United Kingdom, but also in Europe. Three singles from it got to the British Top-10, and the album became twice platinum.
