About Pup
“Topanga”
The first name “Topanga” was a reference to Topanga Lawrence, a hero of Danielle Fishel in the sitcom “Boy Meets World” (the 90s), but when the participants got to know that the character of Fishel would be revived in “Girl Meets World”, they preferred to rename the band into “Pup”, which means “Pathetic Use of Potential.” “Topanga” let out a digital EP “Oceans” and got positive press feedback. In 2013, “Pup” appeared, issuing their debut album.
Debut Album
Pup’s debut album “Pup” was issued in October 2013 on Royal Mountain Records. In April 2014, Pup let out its debut disc in the US. The team went to the studio in 2015 to write down their second disc “The Dream Is Over”, appeared in May 2016 via Side One Dummy.
New Release
In February 2016, the group announced about the release of a new track “DVP” before their second full-length disc, “The Dream Is Over”. Appeared in May 2016, the disc’s name is a reference to a prognosis Stefan got from his doctor: severe damage of his vocal cords.
Awards
Rolling Stone Magazine enlisted the group in 2014's list of “breakout rock acts”. The band has been nominated for three Juno Awards for Recording Package of the Year and Video of the Year. In 2016, the team became a nominee for Video of the Year and for the 2016 Prism Prize.
