The talented 15-year-old fellow Jarvis Cocker at school founded the “Arabicus Pulp” team in the company with the schoolmates Mark Swift, Peter Dalton, and David Lockwood. A year later, the name of the group was reduced to “Pulp”. Within 1980 – 1981, the guys recorded the first demo which was presented to the famous musical critic John Peele. He liked the record and invited the boys to participate in the show. However, this did not bring fame to the group and the disappointed musicians practically dispersed.

About Pulp

New Structures

Cocker, who remained in proud loneliness, gathered a new structure of “Pulp” the next year. There were eight people, including the keyboard player Simon Hinkler. In 1984, there was a debut album of the group, “It”. It was a strange mix of folk and new wave. The record wasn't in special demand and as a result, the team collapsed again. Tireless Jarvis brought together a new structure, having invited the guitarist Russell Senior and the drummer Magnus Doyle and the bass player Peter Mansell. Mangus Doyle left, having left the sister who became subsequently the favourite of the public. Nick Banks sat down at drums, and Steve Havenkhand undertook a bass. Soon Steve was replaced by Steve Mackay. Also the guitarist Mark Webber, who suggested idea of the well-known “aromatic concerts”, joined the group.

Long-awaited Recognition

The album “Separations” appeared only three years later in 1992. But the record failed again. The real recognition of “Pulp” began only in 1992 with the single “Babies”. Its emergence led to the conclusion of the contract with a major label Island Records where the album “His 'n' Hers” (1994) was issued. The disk got to the top British 10 and received good comments of critics. In 1995, “Pulp” let out the single “Common People”, which became the most known work of the group. The album “Different Class” (1995) consolidated success of the collective, having debuted in charts at number one, having received “gold” and then “platinum” status. The following album, “This Is Hardcore”, appeared only in 1998 and in 2001, the group issued “We Love Life”.
