About Pentatonix
History
The history of their community is not quite traditional. Guys became a team just 24 hours before the audition for a music TV show ‘The Sing-off’ on NBC. Three friends Scott, Mitch and Kirstin went to the same school in Arlington, Texas, where they established a successful vocal trio. On one of the music competitions, they performed a cover version of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”. Although they did not win the first place, they were noticed.
Group Formation
Scott decided to enlarge the team and invited the singer Avi, who had earned a reputation as one of the most talented bass singers of Southern California. Kevin, whose song “Julie-O Scott” he found on YouTube, joined the team the latest. The talented beatboxer and a cellist – what could be better for this extraordinary group of performers?
Style
The group has no frames and borders in music. They perform covers of famous songs, and sing their songs. In their arsenal there is pop, reggae, jazz, R & B, folk, dubstep ... The only thing that distinguishes them from many others is unique characteristics of their voices. “Pentatonix” is, above all, an ‘a capella’ group.
Winners
After winning the third season of ‘The Sing-off’, where the guys have received a prize of $200,000 and a contract with Sony, the group settled in Los Angeles. In 2014, “Pentatonix” issued their debut album “PTX Vol.1.” Among other tracks it has a cover of Nicki Minaj's “Starships”, Imogen Heap's “Aha !”, Jasmine Sullivan's “Love You Long Time”. The album also includes two original songs and “The Baddest Girl Show You How To Love”, written by Avi and Kevin. In the first week, 20 000 copies of the album have been sold. Their latest disc appeared in 2015 under the title “Pentatonix”.
