Background of the group began in 1970, when Bobby Liebling joined the band “Space Meat”. When at Halloween of 1971, the new name “Pentagram” appeared, the participants of the group were Geof O'Keefe (guitar), Vincent McAllister (bass,) and Steve Martin (drums). They wanted to sound as loud as possible, so following the examples of “Blue cheer” and “Groundhogs”, they tuned their amps to the full. But already in 3 months the project was frozen as Martin left it.
About Pentagram
Changing Roles
In 1972, Pentagram returned to work changing the roles. Liebling took the guitar and sang, O'Keeffe moved to drums, and McAllister took the bass. However, Bobby did not like to occupy two positions, and he shoved the guitar to Vincent and Greg Mayne became the bassist. In this lineup, the band issued their debut track “Be forewarned”. But the record was let out under the sign “Macabre”, because the musicians were searching for a new name. Nevertheless, it appeared that nothing better could be invented and in 1973, the team gave their first concert as “Pentagram”.
Unsuccessful Years
In 1975, “Pentagram” negotiated with Columbia records but this lead only to a few demos and some sessions. “Kiss” tried to win over a group but the deal never took place because Bobby did not want to give rights on their songs. In 1976, one more guitarist, Marty Iverson, appeared but not for long, as Liebling had constant quarrels with his teammates and three fell apart.
A New Breath
Two years later, Bobby met the drummer Joe Hasselvander. Both musicians were the fans of heavy metal music and the band “Groundhogs”, so decided to perform together. As a result, the sign “Pentagram” was dragged into the light again. They recorded a single under this brand, and ... a silence.
Debut Album
Since 1981, Liebling began performing as a part of the band “Death row”, but by 1984, his fans forced the team to change the sign to “Pentagram”. Finally, in 1985, the long-awaited debut album came out. Hasselvander had already disappeared by that time, and was replaced by Stuart Rose. In 1987, they released their second album, “Day of Reckoning”. Their latest album “Curious Volume” appeared in 2015.
