About Nick Lowe
Career Start
Musical career of Lowe began in 1965 when he together with the school friend Brinsley Schwartz joined “Kippington Lodge” group. In 1969, musicians changed the name for “Brinsley Schwarz” and began to perform country music, country rock, and blues rock. Nick Lowe wrote the most known compositions just being in this group, for example, “(What’s So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding”, which was a real hit made by Elvis Costello in 1979, and “Cruel to Be Kind”, his own hit of the same year.
Cooperation
In his solo creativity of the last years, ballads prevail (with motives of country, soul, rhythm-and-blues, the American "root" rock). After separating from “Brinsley Schwarz” (1975), Lowe together with Dave Edmunds became the participant of “Rockpile” group. In 1976, he let out the first single “So It Goes” / “Heart of the City”. His early works “Jesus of Cool” and “Labour of Lust” are sated with oddish jokes and infectious energy, which made these works as the most distinguished pop recordings of an era of a “new wave”.
Such well-known songs of Lowe as “I Love The Sound of Breaking Glass”, “All Men Are Liars” and “Cruel to Be Kind” were written together with Ian Gomm.
Country music
After the dismissal of “Rockpile” group, Lowe went touring with other collectives. When the direction in music known as “a new wave” fell into a decay, Nick began to practise music in style of country rock. He cooperated with such famous American musicians as D. Hiatt, R. Cooder, and D. Keltner. For the last twenty years, he wrote and released a set of albums, many of which are considered to be very successful.
The most recent studio disks of Nick Lowe, “Quality Street: A Seasonal Selection for All the Family” (2013), is also recognized by many musical critics as his good luck.
