Musiq Soulchild or Taalib Johnson, such name he was given by his parents at the birth, was born in 1977 in Philadelphia. At 17, Musiq decided that he had enough education, left school, his family and became independent. He played in jazz clubs from time to time, sang a capella on the streets of Philadelphia, from time to time intercepted some other work. However, it was not easy to survive – having already become adult and well-known, the musician remembered nights in parks and on benches, and how sometimes his life depended on acquaintances (and at times on unfamiliar people).
About Musiq Soulchild
Two First Albums
However, the talent succeeded to find a way to make the way in life, and, soon his name (at that time the musician decided that from now he will be called by his favourite word – Musiq) was already on a cover of a the released disk under the name “Aijuswanaseing”. It was 2000, the success of an album was grandiose – charts of Billboard and record circulation proved this. It became double platinum. Although the second album “Juslisen” (2002) didn't repeat the triumph of the first disk, it did not become among outsiders, having received deserved platinum status. His music style presents a surprisingly balanced mix of jazz, funk, blues, R&B, soul, and hip-hop.
Recession
The destiny of his third album under the name “Soulstar” (2003) showed the steady recession of the public interest to the works of the musician. And, though it received the gold status, the tendency to grow down was traced in general. More optimistic are the sales of his album “Luvanmusiq” which left with a big break in 2007. Except own albums, the musician takes part in recording of other performers. So, he worked with Lloyd Banks, Talib Kveli, Tyler Perry, “Earth Wind and Fire”, “Black Ice”, and other young and legendary musicians. In 2008, Musiq presented an album “Onmyradio” and in 2009, recorded the Christmas disk “Christmas Musiq”.
Except studio and concert work, Musiq can be seen in the advertising companies of the famous world brands – McDonald's, Nike, Inc., Coca-Cola, Levi Strauss & Co., and other.
