Clapham Common is a huge park, with a surface of 89 hectares, based on Windmill Drive in London. Now holding up to 45.000 people, it was first mentioned almost a thousand years ago, but it was only in 1877 that its present purpose was preserved. Clapham Common is a home of important festivals and famous music concerts such as the annual South West Four or Picnic Rocks. Nowadays it has a full calendar, with big names including The Chemical Brothers on the list.

Getting there

Situated between Clapham, Battersea, and Balham, the park area is reachable by both public transport and private vehicle. It only depends on your departure point which transport mode works best for you. By train and tube: if you choose to go by train or tube, you should know that the square has its own rail and underground station. Hence, you can either take the metro (Northern line) to Clapham Common or Clapham Common South or the train to Clapham High Street or Wandsworth Road, both within 15 minutes walking distance from the park. By bus: there are multiple bus routes as well with many stops near the Common. From Crystal Palace, for instance, take bus 249 or 322. From Clapham Junction, take bus 35 and from Kensington, take bus 345. By car: there is no reason why you shouldn’t take the personal car to go to Clapham Common. If you follow the map, it should be an enjoyable ride. International: At Heathrow International Airport, take the Piccadilly line to South Kensington Station, then the 345 bus to Long Road Clapham Common. There’s a 5-minute walk distance to your destination. Gatwick Airport, on the other side, is closer to the Common, so it’ll take you about 50 minutes to get there. Take the Southern Railway to Balham. From here, go to Stop B and take the 249 bus to Elms Road Windmill on the Common.
