John Cooper Clarke Tickets

John Cooper Clarke was born on January 25, 1949 in Salford, Lancashire. As a teenager, John became interested in the movement of mods; then he worked as the assistant construction engineer, a technician in the laboratory of the University of Salford, typesetter. After a failed marriage, and some time spent in Dorset, Clarke returned to Manchester, where he began performing in clubs with public readings of poetry. His first popularity came to him in the punk scene in 1977, when he released the single “Psycle Sluts” recorded by the producer Martin Hennett on Rabid Records.

Career

Clarke, one time the head of “The Invisible Girls”, toured with such musicians as “Joy Division”, “Sex Pistols”, “Buzzcocks”, and Elvis Costello. A creative peak of John Cooper Clarke is considered the album “Snap, Crackle and Bop” ( 1980). He even obtained the title of punk Poet Laureate from rock critics. The song “Evidently Chickentown” became known to a wide audience through its use in the final season of the TV show “The Sopranos” and in the film “Control”.

In the 80s he has hardly fighting the drug addiction, but in 90s he resumed an active stage career. Clarke had a great influence on the development of the British indie-rock scene and on such musicians as Alex Turner of the “Arctic Monkeys”, who calls him among his major “sources of inspiration”.
