Henry Lawrence Garfield, more famous as Henry Rollins, is an American musician, the lead singer of Rollins Band. He is considered to be one of the classics of American hardcore punk music due to his unique vocal style, stage behavior, and extraordinary image. He is also known for his performances in spoken word genre as well as for his publishing activity. Henry Rollins was a member of Black Flag, which was a milestone for American hardcore scene.

Punk revolution
After leaving a band that was called State Of Alert (often shortened to S.O.A.), Henry Rollins joined Black Flag - one of the most popular punk bands in California. Soon, he became a hardcore icon for the whole punk scene in the USA due to his emotional vocal style, extraordinary behavior on public and stage violence. Songs of that period, such as “Rise Above”, ”Six Pack”, “Thirsty and Miserable” and “TV Party” gained the band a cult following. His harsh vocals with frequent changes in volume and mood influenced many later vocalists in hardcore and extreme metal musicians.
The New Era
After Black Slag split-up, Henry Rollins formed another band that was named after him – Rollins Band. In fact, it was a logical continuation of Black Flag style with the usage of modern sound and recording technologies. The band became more popular with the release of their album “Get Some Go Again” (2000) which possesses all the classical elements of hardcore punk mixed with the latest achievements of the alternative metal genre. Henry Rollins is also known as a famous actor, starring in various horror and criminal films, often portraying tough guys or military officers. Henry Rolins is also very famous for his spoken word performances where he criticizes US government and speaks on the issues of homophobia, racism, and police cruelty in society.
