About Grandaddy
Beginnings
In 1992 Jason Lytle, who, after sustaining a career-ending injury in professional skateboarding, turned to music as an alternative. He joined forces with bassist Kevin Garcia and drummer Aaron Burtch. Soon after, Jim Fairchild joined as guitarist followed by keyboardist Tim Dryden. Under Will Label the band released a mini-album titled “A Pretty Mess by this One Band”.
In 1997 their first full album “Under the Western Freeway” helped them secure a deal with Big Cat Records with major success. Their songs were used on a movie, television and radio shows. Unhappy with their current label the band signed to Richard Branson's V2 Records in 1999.
The band opened up for Elliot Smith and
Coldplay. They gained traction as their Beatles' “Rendition” was picked up for a movie soundtrack. The band felt that the venture was not profitable so decided to split up.
Reunited and it feels so good
Lytle ventured into solo projects which were fueled by alcohol and drug addiction and lost his focus.
Jim Fairchild convinced Jason Lytle to give it another go. Jason reluctantly agreed as he is a self-proclaimed loner. The band reunited in 2012 and played the End of the Road Festival in the UK.
Most recently, Grandaddy released a single with the
Band of Horses titled “Hang an Ornament.” Hopefully, they will continue to impress thousands of loyal fans all over the glove.
