Edinburgh Castle Esplanade is a unique, outdoor, venue that is used for concerts and other events. The most famous of those is the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo which has been held at Edinburgh Esplanade since the 1970’s. The venue is part of Edinburgh Castle in the heart of Old Town Edinburgh and is well signposted and easily accessible by train, bus, car, or foot.
By train and tube: Located at the end of Princes Street, Waverley Station is the main rail station in Edinburgh and is about a 15-minute walk from Edinburgh Castle.
By bus: There are a number of local buses that run regularly past Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, including the Airlink 100 bus service which regularly runs from Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh city centre.
By car: Follow signposts to Edinburgh Castle. It is located at the top of the Lawnmarket.
International: Edinburgh Airport is located less than 10 miles away and within easy reach of the venue. You can catch a bus and /or a train right at the terminal exit.
There is no onsite car parking available at the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. The nearest NCP car park (with dedicated yellow lines for Blue Badge Holders) is located about a 10-minute walk from the venue on Castle Terrace. There are also some parking spaces available for blue badge holders just off the Royal Mile at St. Giles Street. Alternatively, pay and display parking bays can be found within the city centre.
Access for people with special needs
Although there is no parking allowed at Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, disabled people are allowed to be dropped off on event days, but please arrive early to avoid disappointment. There are also disabled toilets available at the venue.
