Chris Daughtry was one of the finalists in the fifth season of American Idol, and it is often thought that Daughtry is his solo project. They are, in fact, a band fronted by him and he said that, when they founded the band, it was better just to use the name as he already had some recognition from the TV show. After the release of their first album in 2006, also called Daughtry, the success of the band has gone from strength to strength.
About Daughtry
The Beginning
After his success on the show, Chris Daughtry was offered the position of lead singer with the band Fuel. He turned this down, however, stating that he wanted to form his own group. He formed the band with his fellow members, Josh Steely, lead guitarist; Josh Paul, bassist; Jeremy Brady, guitarist, and Joey Barnes, drummer; and the band Daughtry was born.
The self-titled debut album was released by RCA Records in November 2006 and reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over four million copies in the US alone! Their debut single, 'It's Not Over' came from the album and reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was followed by another three singles from the album, all top twenty hits.
Moving Onwards and Upwards
'Leave This Town' was the American rock band's second album, released in the summer of 2009, and this too reached number one on the charts. Like the first one, the second album was also a massive hit. The single, 'No Surprise' was taken from this album becoming the band's fifth top twenty hit. Albums three and four, 'Break The Spell' in 2011 and 'Baptized' in 2013, ensured the group's continuing success.
Daughtry has also been touring extensively since 2007. They have performed across the US and Canada and also done shows across Europe, Russia, the Far East, and Australia. They are currently on their 2016 tour across the USA.
