Early Development

The earlier days for CeeLo are not his most memorable. His father died at the age of 2 and his mother when he was 18. However, this sparked a turning point in CeeLo's career life and during the 90's CeeLo hooked up with hip-hop group, Goodie Mob. Their debut album, Soul Food, was released in 1995 and was well known for helping the Southern rap scene to emerge. CeeLo continued to work with the band until record label Arista signed up the star in 1999. Although his first album under Arista, CeeLo Green and His Perfect Imperfections (2002), was not as successful as expected, the second album, Cee-Lo Green...Is the Soul Machine (2004), was much better and reached number 2 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart.

The Last Decade

In 2006, CeeLo made the headlines again with the hit single "Crazy" as was the first single to reach number 1 in the UK by digital downloads alone. This was also included on the first collaboration album with Gnarles Barkley, St. Elsewhere. The next really big hit for CeeLo came in the form of the single, "Fuck You" in 2010 which was an instant success and went straight to number 1 in the UK charts and for which he received five Grammy nominations for. Green's third album called The Lady Killer was released in 2010 and by December had already been certified Gold in the UK. In 2012, CeeLo performed for Barack Obama and also released the song, "I Love Football" which was chosen to be used as the theme song for Thursday Night Football 2013. The year 2014 saw CeeLo touring alongside Lionel Richie during his "All the Hits All Night Long" tour and 2015 bought the release of his fifth album, Heart Blanche.
