About Brandy
Angel in Disguise
Born in 1979 in Mississippi, USA, Brandy relocated at an early age to Los Angeles, where she has lived ever since. A cousin of rapper Snoop Dogg, her recording career began early: from the age of 11 she was already in the studio as a backing vocalist, and in 1994, at the age of fifteen, she released her first album, the self-titled Brandy. It was a success, selling in its millions, and catapulted the teenager to fame.
Instant success
Follow-up album Never Say Never (1998) was even bigger, aided, of course, by the popularity of single “The Boy is Mine”. Showcasing her warm, husky voice, befitting of her name, Brandy enjoyed further acclaim in the following years; Full Moon (2002) and Afrodisiac (2004) both went platinum in the US. Although neither quite attained the mass sales figures of Never Say Never, both albums received much acclaim from critics too, particular Afrodisiac, which was bolstered by her collaboration with superstar producer Timbaland. This period also saw Brandy collaborate with a series of other high-profile names, including guest spots with
Kanye West and P. Diddy.
Since Afrodisiac Brandy has also acted in a variety of TV shows, also finding time to be one of the judges in the first season of America’s Got Talent back in 2006. She has also since released two albums, Human (2008), and Two Eleven (2012), with another due soon.
