The Canadian rock band, Billy Talent, formed in 1993, originally known as “Pezz”, with Benjamin Kowalewicz as the lead vocalist. Since their inception, the band was no stranger to fame, selling almost 3 million albums worldwide. Kowalewicz started the group together with guitarist Ian D’Sa, bassist Jon Gallant and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk, all from Toronto, Ontario. The quartet won numerous awards together, being creators of various great hits, such as “River Below”, “Nothing to Lose” or “Try Honesty”.
About Billy Talent
One of the longest tours ever
Billy Talent didn’t hit success instantly. It was only ten years after their debut that the boys gained popularity. Until 2001, little was known about this soon-to-be-notorious group. After changing their name from “Pezz” to “Billy Talent” (due to a legal misunderstanding), the band also changed the sound, going for a far more aggressive approach. The first self-entitled album has been released into mainstream success and garnered the band attention from all across Canada. And the best was yet to come.
Still successful
The second self-entitled album, “Billy Talent II” was followed by a 20-month long worldwide touring, starting from 2006 to 2008, becoming one of the longest tours ever, causing a stir in the industry. “Billy Talent II” debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian Album Charts, reaching the same popularity in Germany too, although it wasn’t so successful in the US, where it sold a little over 7.000 units in its first week (compared to almost 50.000 in Canada).
“Billy Talent III” followed in 2009 and it was the end of a thriving trilogy, succeeded by “Dead Silence” three years later. After announcing the launching of a greatest hits album, the group started working on its fifth studio album, but this time without Solowoniuk, who had to take a hiatus due to severe health problems. “Afraid of Heights” was released in July 2016 and it has sold over 50.000 units one week after launching, proving that “Billy Talent” still rocks the industry.
