The Ohio-based hardcore punk band, Beartooth, was formed by leader Caleb Shomo in 2012, after his departure from another alike band, Attack Attack!. Shomo wanted something different, but still hardcore, so he started working on the project before leaving his first band. The debut album released by Beartooth two years later made some big waves, and the group continued their ascent with the second album, “Aggressive” even better received by the public.
About
It all started with a joke
Shomo said in an interview that Beartooth (originally called “Noise”) was meant to create amusement, a way to have a good time, but it turned out to be his dearest project, reaching a great success, surpassing all expectations. Thus, Shomo recruited guitarist Taylor Lumley, drummer Brandon Mullins and bassist Nick Reed to complete the team and on January 2013, the band released the first singles. “Set Me On Fire”, “I Have a Problem” and “Pick Your Poison” were first released online, and shortly after, the band signed a contract with Red Bull Records.
Disgusted by everything
After several lineup changes, Beartooth released the first album, “Disgusting” on May 2014, reaching No. 6 on US Hard Rock Charts. The tracks had a punk rock feeling with electronic elements, and it gathered mainly positive reviews. Shomo said that he wrote the album himself, whenever he was in the right mood or couldn’t sleep at night. The result is an honest album with strong lyrics and powerful messages. For instance, “Beaten In Lips” speaks about child abuse, while “I Have a Problem” clearly highlights how problematic alcoholism is.
This June, the band released their second album, “Aggressive”, with greater success than the previous one. It reached No. 2 on US Indie and UK Rock Charts, and No. 3 on US Hard Rock Chart.
