The beginning

Even at the very first stages of his career, his music allowed ranking Alice Cooper’s band together with other eminent Detroit bands of the time, such as MC5 and Stooges. However, there was a fundamental difference. By the end of 1971, Alice Cooper has made significant changes in his shocking shows. Stage props now included the guillotine and the electric chair. There were rivers of artificial blood flowing from the walls. Cooper adorned his neck with a real boa. The final touch in Cooper’s appearance was a gloomy makeup, highlighting the demonic ‘nature’ of the image. Alice Cooper’s glory started with rumours and his albums sparked the audience’s interest immediately.

The success

But the point is that all the show wouldn’t have worked without a strong musical component. After releasing the first albums (Pretties for You in 1969 and Easy Action in 1970), the band signed a new contract with Warner Brothers. Then, they experienced one success after another – Love It to Death (1971), Killer (1971), and School’s Out (1972). The latter conquered the whole world and became the best-selling album in Warner’s history. The title song is still one of the most popular worldwide.

The show must go on

Alice Copper also created Billion Dollar Babies, which was number one both in British and American charts, Welcome to My Nightmare, Hey Stoopid and a number of other outstanding albums. One of the latest Cooper’s works is Hollywood Vampires (2015), recorded with Johnny Depp and Joe Perry. Together, they created a rock supergroup Hollywood Vampires and kept touring all over the world.
