Frehley was not always Ace. His real name is Paul Daniel Frehly. He was born in Bronx on April 27, 1951. Paul got a guitar at 13, and "Mrs Brown, You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter" from the repertoire of “Herman's Hermits” became the first song which he sang. At 16, Ace (this was his nickname at school) already knew that he wanted to be the guitarist. In the period from 1969 to 1973 Frehley changed many garage teams among which were “Magic People”, “The Muff Divers”, “The Exterminator’s”, “The Four Rose’s”, “Millemo”. The last from them even recorded several tracks for RCA which, however, remained unissued.
About Ace Frehley
Audition
At the end of 1973, Ace saw the announcement: “Guitarist wanted with flash and ability”, and went for audition. In spite of the fact that Stanley and Simmons met him hostilely, after Frehley showed his skills, he was accepted in a team. Ace offered the idea of the “Kiss” logo with two lightnings instead of “SS”.
"Kiss"
From the very beginning, Ace proved to be not only the guitarist, but also the composer, having debuted with the song “Cold Gin". His things (though in a small amount) were present also in the subsequent albums. At first Frehley hesitated to sing the songs, but in 1977 he performed as the vocalist, having sung “Shock me” in an album “Love gun". The next year when “pussycats” decided to let out a solo performance, Ace had to sing all the songs himself. Interestingly, but from four albums, the disk “Ace Frehley” made the greatest commercial success. The composition “New York Groove” took the 13th place, and the disk appeared on the 26th position in Billboard.
Solo career
By 1982, creative disagreements in “Kiss” became too unbearable, so this was the main reason for leaving the group. During the same period, Frehley endured two serious car accidents. Therefore, he needed a long time for return to a musical scene. In the mid-80s the guitarist founded the solo project, “Frehley’s Comet” with Anton Fig (percussions), John Regan (bass), Richie Scarlet (guitar, vocals), and Arthur Stead (keyboards).
Reunion
At last, in 1996, Ace returned to “Kiss”. This time the original structure held on together till 2000 when the “farewell tour” took place. After the tour Simmons and Stanley decided to continue the activity of the group, but Frehley refused. In 2004, he debuted in a cinema, having acted in the criminal drama "Remedy".
