About ABC
History
The ABC has started as Vice Versa, a music band, formed in 1977. They established their own independent label while releasing the EP. Martin Fry, the author of the fanzine Modern Drugs, was interviewing Vice Versa. They offered him to join to play synthesiser shortly afterwards. Martin accepted the invitation and by late 1980 the band had become an ABC, with Fry becoming the lead vocalist.
Just in 1982, the group had three Top 10 hits: the singles "All of My Heart", "The Look of Love" and "Poison Arrow". Their next album, “Beauty Stab”, was released in 1983, followed by “How to be a... Zillionaire” in 1985, “Alphabet City” in 1987, “Up” in 1989, and “Abracadabra” in 1991. This glorious period ended with a six years break.
Big Comeback
After the six-years break, Martin Fry restored the band’s name in 1997 for the album “Skyscraping”. In 1999 his fifth album “The Lexicon of Love” was released. In fact, this album covers most of their major hits.
Following ABC’s tour throughout the United States in 2006 a new ABC album, “Traffic” was put together and released in April 2008. Finally, in spring 2016, the release of new album, “The Lexicon of Love II”, was announced. The album contained a lead single "Viva Love", which made available via different digital platforms. The album hit the UK Albums Chart. This is the first time since the initial Lexicon of Love released in 1982 that ABC has made it to the Top 5 again.
