The Epstein Theatre, situated at 85, Hanover Street, originally opened in 1913 as Crane's Music Hall. It was renamed as the Crane Theatre in 1938. After being threatened with closure, Liverpool Corporation purchased the theatre in 1967, and they changed the name to the Neptune Theatre. Due to lack of support and falling attendances, the theatre nearly closed again in 1993. In 1997, the name was changed to the Epstein Theatre in honour of the Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein. The building underwent a major refurbishment and re-opened in 2011 with a capacity of 385. Now it plays host to drama, musicals, pantomimes and concerts.
