“The National” is the American indie rock group appeared in New York by the musicians from Cincinnati, Ohio. The band was created in 1999 by Matt Berninger and brothers Dessner and Devendorf. Future musicians left work to participate in the project. After settling in New York, music became the main occupation for the participants, while at first it was only a hobby. The current lineup of the team comprises Matt Berninger (vocals, lyrics), Aaron Dessner (bass guitar), Bryce Dessner (guitar), Bryan Devendorf (drums), Scott Devendorf (bass guitar). The lyrics of the group are called “dark, melancholic and difficult to interpret.”

Beginning of the Career
The first independent disc, “The National”, was issued under the label Brassland Records, owned by brothers Dessner and Alec Bemis. The musicians gave several concerts supporting the upcoming album. It was the beginning of their career, followed by the second disc – “Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers”.
Further Success
Their prominence across the US came with the edition of the disc “Alligator”, which was highly valued by the public and critics: for example, according to the newspaper Los Angeles Times, this disc was the best in the indie scene of 2005. In 2005, the group began to record under a new label - Beggars Banquet Records. “Alligator” was recorded under a new label. It was named the “Album of the Year” by many reputable music publications. In 2007, a new disc “Boxer”, which had the same success as the previous one, was let out. In 2010, the release of a new album “High Violet” took place. It has received the highest accolades from critics once again and became the most commercially successful album - the disc has received gold status in England, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium and Canada. A subsequent disc “Trouble Will Find Me” (2013) received the silver status in the UK and was nominated for Grammy 2014 in the Best Alternative Album category.
