About Royce Da 5’9’’
Early recognition
Ryan Montgomery was born in the west of Detroit, the State of Michigan. At the age of 10, he moved to Oak Park, the State of Michigan, and got the nickname “Royce” later because of the fact that wore the Turkish chains with the pendent reminding the Rolls-Royce Limited symbol. He began to read rap at 18 under the influence of Ras Kass and Redman. In 1998, Montgomery signed the first contract with Tommy Boy Records, and then with Columbia Records where the recording of the album "Rock City" began. When many piracy copies were recorded, Royce changed the studio for Koch Records to rewrite an album to let out it in 2002 under the name “Rock City (Version 2.0)”. Though the album wasn't on sale very well, but thanks to the single “Boom” produced by DJ Premier, 5’9” gained some recognition and finally it led to closer cooperation between them.
Cooperation
His manager presented him to Eminem in 1997, and the rappers created the “Bad Meets Evil” joint project, and let out several tracks together. Royce appeared on a debut of Eminem “The Slim Shady LP” where he proved to show himself on a track “Bad Meets Evil”. Royce and Eminem let out a track under the name “Renegade”, in which Royce will be replaced with Jay-Z later and the track will enter an album “Jay-Z Blueprint”. Thanks to Eminem, Royce will be also presented to Dr. Dre and Game Recordings. After this, Royce wrote the text for the song “The Message” and the original “Xxplosive” (which was also called “Way I Be Pimping”) for an album “Dre 2001”.
Solo works
In 2001, the game GTA 3 was released, the soundtrack of which included several songs of Royce. Outside association with Eminem, Royce could revive the name and in 2004, the rapper let out the second album under the name “Death Is Certain”. At the moment it is the most successful album of Royce, the single produced by DJ Premier under the name "Hip-hop" entered it.
After success of the second album, Royce let out the third solo performance under the name “Independent's Day” in 2005. The album was less successful than his previous releases. At this time, the hostility of Royce and his former friend Pruf reached boiling points and both rappers took up arms. As a result, two rivals were arrested and sent to prison. Then, the rappers reconciled and later held two joint tours. Royce planned other projects with the rapper Nottz and the former “D-Elite team”, but it was prevented by the imprisonment for 1 year.
