Mike & the Mechanics are and English rock/pop group that formed back in 1985.Originally the band was formed as a sort of side project for the band’s leader, Mike Rutherford, but they quickly went on to be a much bigger success and produced massive hits like“In the Living Years” and “All I Need is a Miracle”. The band currently consists of Mike Rutherford (guitars, bass, and backing vocals), Anthony Drennan (guitars, bass), Tim Howar (vocals), Luke Juby (keyboards, backing vocals, bass, saxophone, and whistler), Andrew Roachford (vocals, keyboards), and Gary Wallis (drums).

Mike Rutherford’s SideShow

Mike & the Mechanics was only supposed to be a side project for Rutherford as he was already involved heavily with Genesis, but the band were hugely successful throughout their career.The group only really came together after they recorded their first album, Mike & the Mechanics in 1985 and also managed to achieve two top ten hit singles with “All I Need is a Miracle” and “Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)”. 

The Living Years Success

Things just kept on getting better for Mike & the Mechanics and their second album entitled Living Years, scooped the guys a U.S. No. 1 single in the form of the song “The Living Years”. In 1991, their third album was released and was even more popular than then previous two with “Word of Mouth” becoming one of their most popular songs to date. 

Platinum Hit

Their fourth album called Beggar on a Beach of Gold was released in 1995 and included the hit single “Over My Shoulder”. Finally, the guys decided to put together a compilation album entitled Hits which was released in 1996 and went platinum in the UK within just two months. Their next two albums, Mike & the Mechanics and Rewired, were released in 1999 and 2004 respectively with their final album entitled The Road, being released in 2011.
