Manchester Academy, built in 1990, is a name for four concert venues used by the University of Manchester Students’ Union. Sometimes it is also referred to as Academy 1. The latest renovation in 2007 boosted the Academy capacity to 2000 people. Currently, it has a reputation for being UK ‘greenest venue’. This is mainly due the fact that a third of the budget was spent on decreasing the environmental impact from the venue. Manchester Academy has hosted music concerts for singers such as Kylie Minogue and Ellie Goulding.
