Major Lazer Tickets

Major Lazer was the bearded Jamaican warrior in black glasses. He loved noisy parties; he had a flying skateboard on rocket fuel — and no hands: he lost them during the secret war with the zombie in the 84th. But we will talk about “Major Lazer” as the musical project of DJ and producer Diplo and Switch, made in 2008, but their ways dispersed in 2011. Producers Jillionaire and Walshy Fire also participate in the project.

About Major Lazer

“Major Lazer” project

Major Lazer started Diplo and Switch, two visionaries out of slums armed with laptops. One introduced the term “Baile Funk” another invented “Fidget House”. Both of them went to Jamaica to studio where “The Wailers” were written, armed with the help of local singers and old girlfriends (like the same Santigold or Amanda Blank) — and built one more eccentric hybrid. Diplo and Switch got acquainted while working with the singer M.I.A. The current lineup of the group consists of Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire. The past participants of the team were Switch and Skerrit Bwoy.

Debut Album

The debut album “Guns Don't Kill People … Lazers Do” came on June 16, 2009 by Downtown Records. It was recorded at the Jamaican studio Tuff Gong with the assistance of such vocalists as Santigold, Busy Signal, Nina Sky, Amanda Blank. Afrojack and Crookers helped to produce the disk. “Hold the Line” became the first single from the album, and the video clip was nominated for MTV channel award in the category “Breakthrough Video”.

Second Album

In 2013, there was the second full-fledged disk under the name “Free the Universe”. Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend, Amber Coffman from Dirty Projectors, Tyga, Flux Pavilion, Bruno Mars, and many others took part in a recording of the album. The album took the 34th place in the British and American charts.
