Loyle Carner is a rapper and actor from South London, an admirer of grime and hip-hop since he was little. He grew up on grime, listening to Ghetts, Kano or Skepta, bands that caught his attention. But he eventually sacrificed music for acting, for which he developed a particular interest being a teenager. He graduated the Drama Centre London, after receiving a scholarship, but soon realised that he was totally into music, so he changed direction.
About Loyle Carner
The drama from Carner’s music
It was a wise decision, given that he is now strongly appreciated in the industry. Carner’s first gig was in 2012, at The Button Factory in Dublin. He then continued with “A Little Late”, his first EP released in fall 2014, creating a strong impression with its full honesty. Carner wrote the song after his stepfather died, pouring all that rage and helplessness on notes. The young rapper seems more mature than he is, honestly talking about daily family issues that every almost-adult has to stand up to. It seems like he’s being followed by drama everywhere, but Carner makes art in different forms out of it.
Carner and Bada$$
Following the release of “A Little Late”, Carner went on supporting Joey Badass and Kate Tempest tours, but he didn’t stop here. In fall 2014, he went supporting Joey Bada$$ in what was about to be Carner’s biggest tour. He was so impressed by this huge opportunity, thinking back at the time when he admired Bada$$, not even dreaming of sharing the same stage. Later on, Tempest got very fond of him, so the two of them started a prolific collaboration. Actually, the young rapper previously stated that he founds inspiration in Kate’s poems and novels. Their styles mingled perfectly, and it all rounded out with “Guts”, a great radio hit. Hopefully, loyal fans will experience many more of those in the years to come.
