About Laura Mvula

Successful Start

Her first great solo performance was held on September 16, 2012 at the festival iTunes. Releasing a single “She” on October 22, 2012, Mvula continued to work in the New York studio Electric Lady Studios over the full album under the direction of multiple winner of Grammy – Tom Elmhirst. Thanks to fascinating melody of compositions and bright video clips, Laura's debut CD “Sing to the Moon” released on March 4, 2013 immediately took the best position in many world charts. It took the ninth place in the British charts.

Music style

Critics put Laura Mvulu in the line with the new British soul singers, followers of Amy Winehouse and Adele. Her composer education made a significant influence on her work, and for this reason, the singer calls himself “a weird kid in the rhythm and blues.” According to David Lester, her songs are closer to the style of baroque pop, rather than to the retro-soul. Among the singers influenced her creativity, according to Laura, should be noted Jill Scott (Jill Scott), Erykah Badu (Erykah Badu), and Lauryn Hill (Lauryn Hill).
