His work is on the verge of country and pop music, and the most famous recordings are slow love ballads. The most successful of these was the country rock trio “The First Edition” (1967-76).

About Kenny Rogers

Solo Career

After the collapse of the group, Rogers started a solo career which began with the big hit Lucille” (1977). It won the first place in twelve countries, including the UK, and received Grammy for the best male vocals in the style of the country.

Cooperation

In 1980, Rogers played Lionel Richie’s ballad “Lady”, which became the highest grossing entry in his career. It remained at the top of Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks. Over the next few years, Rodgers continued to work with Richie (the track “Through the Years”, 1981) and other pop stars. In 1983, he recorded a duo with the country music divas Sheena Easton (“We've Got Tonight”) and Dolly Parton (“Islands in the Stream”).

Decrease of Popularity

In the mid-80s, Rogers worked with such status producers as David Foster and George Martin, but by the early 90s, his popularity waned – due to the old age and a new generation of country artists, led by Garth Brooks.

Collaboration

Simultaneously to his solo work, Kenny wrote down a series of hits with the country legend Dottie West. The two entered the top of the country charts with “Every Time Two Fools Collide” (1978), “All I Ever Need Is You” (1979) and “What Are We Doin' in Love” (1981). Also in 1981, Rogers took the No. 1 spot on the pop charts for six weeks with his version of Lionel Richie's “Lady.”
