About Katie Melua
Music as a passion
In 2003, it has become a great time for Katie. She had an opportunity to play at the presentation of the annual Royal Variety and she met the Queen there. Later this year, Katie appeared on the other scene. Her first disc “Call Off the Search” came out in Britain and occupied the top of the album charts, surpassing Dido.
Return of Popularity
Being a little outweighted by Norah Jones, Katie returned to the charts and was there for 3 weeks. In 2004, she went live touring across the UK, including 14 performances. Later she issued 2 singles, followed by tours in America and Europe!
Success
“Call Off the Search” received 10 top lines in Europe and became gold in Holland, Hong Kong, and Switzerland, and even platinum in Denmark, New Zealand, and Australia, but double platinum in Germany, Ireland, Norway, and South Africa. Only throughout Europe, over 2 million copies were distributed. In 2005, the disk was called the best in Japan. It was voted 6 times platinum in Britain.
In between traveling, Katie created her new disk “Piece By Piece”, once again demonstrating her performing talent. It appeared after the track “Nine Million Bicycles” and entered the list of jazz collections. A cover composition of Cure “Just Like Heaven” (1987) was written for the new movie of DreamWorks, starring Reese Witherspoon.
