Canadian Upbringing

Born in Vancouver, BC as Claire Elise Boucher on March 17, 1988, she studied ballet for 11 years. She attended McGill University in Montreal, QC, studying neuroscience, philosophy and Russian Literature before diving full time into her musical career. Through Arbutus Records she released two studio albums Geidi Primes and Halfaxa in 2010. She signed on with 4AD and released the critically acclaim album “Visions” in 2012. Her single “Oblivion” reached No.1 on the 200 Best Tracks of the Decade So Far in 2014 from Pitchfork Media.

Fierce Determination

Grimes described once that writing songs for “Visions” was equally enjoyable and tortuous” as she holed up for three weeks in her apartment to pen the songs for the album. After releasing her track “Go” through the Roc Nation label, her fans are not sure which direction she is taking because the song is such a turn around from her original synth pop sound. However, Rolling Stone ranked it No. 14 on their Best Songs of 2014 list. Grimes released “Art Angels” in 2015 and had not failed to impress. She has only been gaining steam and with a few world tours under her belt, should be going strong for years to come.

Accolades

Grimes has been awarded the Best Canada Album of 2012 through Polaris Music Prize, Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Electronic Album of the Year both in 2013 at the Juno Awards. Dance Video of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Post-Production and Best Director at the 2015 Much Music Video Awards. At the 2016 International Dance Music Awards, she won Best Alternative/Indie Rock Dance Track.
