Gomez Tickets

“Gomez” is the British rock group playing mainstream, Britpop, and blues rock. The group was formed in the mid-nineties when Ian Ball’s acquaintance with the drummer Olly Peacock. Soon two more amateur musicians — the guitarist and keyboard player Tom Gray and the bass guitarist Paul Blackburn joined the band. It was in 1994. The next year or two the group spent not without any advantages, but also without special achievements: the guy rehearsed occasionally, their music changed the forms over time, they moved away from the super popular style of grange which was felt at their beginning.

About Gomez

Debut

At the time when the group was in a creative search of their own unique style, the vocalist, Ben Ottewell, joined it. Soon after this event, a demo tape with the songs of the group appeared in the hands of Steven Fellows, the former leader of “Comsat Angels” group. Stephen liked what he had heard, and soon “Gomez” had an audition with representatives of several large labels. As a result, the group signed the contract with Hut Recordings, affiliated of Virgin Records label. The debut album of Gomez “Bring It On” left in 1998 and received great success. The second album “Liquid Skin” which left in 1999 was also very popular. All its songs were written, performed and reduced by the forces of the group. In 1999, “Gomez” was nominated for the award “Brit Awards” directly in three categories — “The best British album”, “The best British group” and “An album of year”.

Achievments

In 1998, “Gomez” received a prestigious Mercury Music Prize for the album “Bring it On”, having bypassed such rivals as Massive Attack (Mezzanine) and The Verve (Urban Hymns). The second album “Liquid Skin” was written down in Abbey Road studios and left in 1999. The collection “Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline” (2000) followed the third (“In Our Gun”, 2002) and the fourth (“Split the Difference”, 2004) studio albums. They did not make commercial success; the group left Virgin and issued “Out West” at ATO Records with a moderate success.
