Born in a small town in Alabama, Richie succeeded as the vocalist and saxophonist in a trio “The Commodores”, for which he wrote a number of perfect ballads like “Three Times a Lady” (1977) and “Still” (1979). “The Commodores” was the most commercially successful project of rhythm and blues Motown label, though with every new record Richie moved away from the classic soul towards more profitable pop music.
