Music Academy Group is probably one of the largest venue holders in the entire UK, with music departments all over the kingdom. The O2 Academy Birmingham branch holds an important spot in this music chain. Birmingham O2 division consists of three performance stages. Academy 1 is the largest, with over 3000 setting capacity; Academy 2 can accommodate 600 people; and Academy 3 is the smallest one, with just 250 people seating capacity. Practically any live music event of importance happens on one of the O2 Academy stages.
Here are just some of the ways to reach the Academy on 16-18 Horsefair Street:
By train and tube: All four major rail lines in Birmingham (Arriva Trains, Virgin Trains, CrossCountry, and London Midland) can take you to Birmingham New Street station. After you exit the station walk south west to Pinfold Street; then, turn left to Bright Street, and proceed ahead — you will not miss the Academy. The whole walking should not take longer than 10 minutes.
By bus: the nearest bus station is Academy stop. Lines 61, 63, 146, 186, and X64 will take you there, and the venue will be just a couple of meters ahead.
By car: if you follow A38 route, you will not miss the Academy. It is practically at the junction of Bristol Road and Irving Street.
International: if you would like to get to the O2 Academy directly from Birmingham International airport, catch any train line to Birmingham New Street station. The venue will be in about 10-minutes walk (see above).
The academy does not offer its own parking, but there is a secure parking lot on Bromsgrovee Street, B5. The facility is available 24/7 and is equipped with yellow lines for the disabled drivers. Rates start at £1.50 an hour, but you can also park for £10.00 a day.
Accessibility for people with special needs
As a leading music venue, O2 Academy Birmingham is full prepared to welcome visitors with special needs: ramped access, lifts, accessible seating, and viewing area, adapted toilet, hearing aid loops — the venue has it all.
