Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde, famous as Birdy, was born on May 15, 1996, in the small English city of Lymington, Hampshire, the UK. Her mother is the giving concerts pianist, and in this regard, her daughter early learned to play the piano — when she was 5. In 2008, Birdy won a competition of talents Open Mic UK in the category of contestants under- 18s, having bypassed 10 thousand rivals. At the competition, she sang the song of her own composition “So Be Free” before two thousand viewers.

In 2009, Birdy performed live piano concert for BBC Radio 3 in London. In 2011, at 14, Jasmin recorded a cover version of the song “Skinny Love”. It became her first hit in the UK Singles Chart, having taken the 17th position. The single was also elected as “Record of The Week” by a prominent British radio DJ Fearne Cotton. A legendary music video director Sophie Muller, who worked with such world stars as Shade, Anny Lennox, Shakira, and others, shot the official video on this song. The song appeared in one of TV series “The Vampire Diaries” — “The End of the Affair”. In the Netherlands charts, the song occupied the first line. In 2011, Jasmin performed at BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. During the performance she presented the cover versions of “The XX” group’s song “Shelter” and Ed Sheeran’s — “The A Team”.
