Lionel Richie was born on June 20, 1949. He is the American pop singer, who was among the stars of the 1980s. All 13 tracks issued in the period 1981-1987, were in the Billboard Hot 100, five of them – on the 1st place. Born in a small town in Alabama, Richie succeeded as the vocalist and saxophonist in a trio “The Commodores”, for which he wrote a number of perfect ballads like “Three Times a Lady” (1977) and “Still” (1979). “The Commodores” was the most commercially successful project of rhythm and blues Motown label, though with every new record Richie moved away from the classic soul towards more profitable pop music.
