André Leon Maries Nicolas Rieu was born in 1949 in a big Dutch family. His first classes of violin he began to take in 1954. During the period from 1968 to 1973, he spent in a musical academy, studying violin with teachers of the highest class - Jo Juda and Herman Krebbers. Then Andre leaves for Brussels to continue his music education at Andre Gertler. In 1978, André Rieu begins to play in an orchestra “The Maastricht Salon Orchestra”.
Collaboration with Orchestras
During the period from 1978 to 1989, he works with the orchestra “Limburg Symphony Orchestra”. Since 1978, he goes on a tour with the orchestra “Maastricht Salon Orchestra”, performing in the cities of Belgium, Germany, America, and Netherlands, up to 1998. Since 1987 and up to 2002, André Rieu begins to work with the orchestra “The Johann Strauss Orchestra”, playing in the large cities of Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and France.
At the same time he, jointly with his colleagues, becomes the founder of Andre Rieu Productions.
In 1994, André Rieu issues a successful “The Second Waltz” and “Strauss & Co”, which have become popular not only in Netherlands but also beyond its limits. The proof of his success was the appearance of his works in the Top 10 and staying there for a whole year. The work “Wiener Melange” was awarded the first place in Top 100, and also “Strauss & Co” was awarded seven platinum disks.
In 1996, André Rieu received the “World Music Award”.
In the period from 1997 to 2000, he has written down and has issued the following works: “Mein Weihnachtstraum”, “Romantic Moments”, “100 Jahre Strauss”, “Das Jahrtausendfest”, “La Vie est Belle”.
In 2000, his younger brother Jean Phillip, together with whom the waltz “La Vie est Belle” has been written down, has joined André Rieu's company. In 2002, his son came into the company too.
