Akala is a scene name for Kingslee James Daley – an English rapper, intellectual, and poet. Born on December 1, 1983, in London, he introduced us to the world of meaningful rap music. Akala chose his stage name due to the fact that it’s a Buddhist term for "Immovable". His career started relatively recently in 2003, and swiftly became a success. In 2006, the performer was voted as the best rapper on the MOBO Awards.

Rapping breakthrough
His career started in 2003, from the moment he started releasing music from his own independent music label – ILLA State Records. His first mixtape “The War Mixtape” was released in 2004. Next, his first album “It’s not a rumour” was released two years later. 2006 was a very successful year for the artist. On top of the breakthrough album, which contained the single “Shakespear” that made it to the top of the playlists, his talent was recognised by MOBO Award for the Best Hip Hop Act. The same year he released a mixtape “A Little Darker” in collaboration with his sister Ms.Dynamite and other artists.
At some point, Akala was challenged to come up with a rap song, which would contain as many titles of Shakespeare’s plays as he could. He wrote a minute-long rap song, which contained 27 various Shakespeare play titles.
The success
In 2007 the first debut was followed by his album “Freedom Lasso”. “The War Mixtape Vol.2” was released the next year. His third album “Doublethink” was released in 2010 has a very powerful theme of one of the most popular novels – “Nineteen Eighty-Four” by George Orwell. After that, he releases few more albums (“The Thieves Banquet”, “Knowledge is Power”, “The Ruin Of Empires”), inspired by worldwide issues, literature, and meaningful topics. In 2010 he headlined a performance at the British Library, which included Akala participating in a hip-hop panel discussion.
The road goes on
His song “Fire in the Booth” received over 2 million hits on YouTube and is considered to be one of the most popular ones, along with "Find No Enemy", “Shakespeare”, and "Yours and My Children". In addition to that, Akala’s songs also appear in several computer games and movies.
